No. 15 Field Hockey Drops Bucknell, 5-2

PRINCETON, N.J. – Five different players scored as the No. 15 Princeton field hockey team took down the Bucknell Bison, 5-2, at Bedford Field on Sunday afternoon.
It took 95 seconds for the Tigers to exert their offense as sophomore Sophia Tornetta found some open space to slap a shot that Bucknell's goalie Emily Finn had to make a save on.
A few minutes later, Princeton peppered Finn with shots off a corner, but the goalie stood her ground. In the 11th minute, the home squad broke through as senior Ellen Dobrijevic deposited a pass from junior Rachel Park in the back of net. Senior captain Cat Caro and freshman Krista Hoffman tallied goals one minute and 24 seconds apart to put Princeton ahead, 3-0, with just two minutes left in the first stanza. After the first 35 minutes, the Tigers held a 15-2 shot advantage.
The Bison quickly countered after the break as Katie Mannino dribbled along the end line and scooted the ball past sophomore Grace Baylis to set the score at 3-1. In the 42nd minute, on a corner, freshman Maddie Bacskai fired a shot that was stopped, but junior Ryan McCarthy picked up the deflection and slid a pass over to Tornetta, who registered her first goal of the season.
Freshman Carlotta von Gierke created some distance with her defender and snuck the ball over to McCarthy, who blasted an attempt past the goalie in the 50th minute for the Tigers' fifth goal of the game. The Bison wrapped up the scoring with a tally from Brittany Willwerth with 26 seconds to go.
McCarthy led all players with five shots and three points. After a five-point weekend, the junior now has 14 goals and 35 points in her career. Princeton begins a stretch of four straight contests vs. nationally ranked teams with a battle vs. No. 9 Albany next Friday (Sept. 9) at Bedford Field (4 p.m.)
