5 Items from Princeton's Last Road Trip of 2016 (Story)
Â
Freshman Sensation: Bella Alarie's wonderful freshman campaign has continued as she recorded her third career double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds vs. Lipscomb (Dec. 31). Her 15 rebounds tied her season-best while four assists were a team-high. Alarie leads the team in scoring (11.3), rebounding (7.2), assists (2.5) and blocks (1.3). She is also shooting 38.9 percent from the floor and 34.7 percent from beyond the arc.
Â
Feeling Charitable?: Free throws did not play a major part in the Tigers' matchup vs. the Yellow Jackets. Georgia Tech went 10-of-17 (58.8 percent) from the charity stripe while Princeton attempted only six free throws.
Â
A 10-2 spurt by the Yellow Jackets to end the first half put them in front, 35-21. While Princeton registered the first five points of the third quarter, Georgia Tech's Elo Edeferioka dropped in the next eight points, extending its lead to 17 (45-28).
Â
In the fourth quarter, head coach Courtney Banghart's team turned up the defense as it held the Yellow Jackets to one basket over the first six minutes of the frame, however, the Tigers couldn't muster the offensive firepower to get back into the contest, only getting as close as 13 during that stretch.
Â
Defense, Defense, Defense: The Tigers made their first four shots against Georgia Tech, but the Yellow Jacket's defense turned up a notch as Princeton missed its next 10 shots. The Tigers
went 9-of-28 (32.1 percent) in the first half and finished with a shooting percentage of 27.9 in the game.
Â
From Downtown!: The Bisons took 30 three-pointers, but only sank six of them (20.0 percent). Lipscomb made three treys in the first quarter as it remained within striking distance of Princeton (18-15). The Tigers held the Bisons to 3-of-23 from deep over the last three quarters, outscoring the home team, 46-21 in the second half. Lipscomb's top two long range shooters, Alex Banks and Meredith Lovelady, were a combined 0-of-7.
Â
