Busy Week Ahead for Women's Tennis Team
January 30, 2017 | Women's Tennis
Four matches in a five-day span are what's ahead for the Princeton women's tennis team, which opened its dual-match season Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of Delaware and Seton Hall.
The first three of those contests are Wednesday through Friday in Texas. The trip will start Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET at UT Arlington (1-2), followed by a Thursday at 4 p.m. ET match at Texas A&M (4-0) and Friday at 1 p.m. ET at Rice (2-1). The weekend will close with a Sunday match at 12 p.m. in Jadwin Gym against Wake Forest. Admission is free to the home match.
The Tigers have only faced one of those teams in recent history, defeating Rice 4-3 in Houston. A doubles-point win and three singles victories, all from players who return this year in Katrine Steffensen, Caroline Joyce and Dorothy Tang, tipped that match to Princeton.
Princeton's twinbill sweep last Saturday came with a perfect 6-0 doubles record across the dual matches while seven Tigers split the team's eight singles wins and senior Alanna Wolff went 2-0.
Among Princeton's opponents, Texas A&M is ranked 15th. The Aggies count ranked singles players in No. 57 Tina Bokhua and No. 85 Rachel Pierson, and a ranked doubles team in No. 17 Pierson and Rujuta Bhosale. Texas A&M is coming off a win over No. 12 Miami (Fla.) at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, earning the Aggies a place at the ITA Indoor Nationals beginning Feb. 10 at Yale.
Rice has two ITA-ranked singles players in No. 102 Alison Ho and No. 110 Katherine Ip, while Ho and Wendy Zhang are the No. 30 doubles team in the nation. Wake Forest also has two ITA-ranked singles players in No. 33 Kimmy Guerin and No. 61 Emma Davis.
