PRINCETON, N.J. (1/5/17) - This Friday's Princeton/Navy meet marks the 60th anniversary of the track & field dual meet.
The two teams first forged a dual meet during the 1957-58 season in Annapolis, and have kept the tradition alive nearly annually. Princeton holds a slight 23-22 edge in the series and have won the last two dual meets. Last year the Tigers won by 10 points in Annapolis and earned a win at Jadwin in 2015 94-86. Navy's last win in the dual meet was in 2014, a 94-87 victory.
The meet kicks off at 11 a.m., with the weight throw.
Last year at Wesley A. Brown Field House, Princeton won nine of the 17 events, including four of the six field events: the weight throw, shot put, long jump and triple jump; as well as the 60, 800, 1000, 3000 and 4x800 relay.
Adam Kelly won the weight throw with a toss of 19.63m (64-5) on his final attempt, four feet further than the rest of the competition. The Tigers went 1-2 in the shot put with the duo of Christopher Cook and Mitchel Charles. Cook launched to 17.03 (55-10.50) while Charles saw 16.59 (54-5.25) on his first attempt, which would be his best of the day.
Another 1-2 effort came in the long jump. Jake Scinto '16 was over 6.5 meters on every jump and reached 6.96 (22-10) on his third that would be his best of the afternoon. Greg Leeper leapt to 6.57 (21-6.75) on his only jump but it was good enough for second place. The success in the jumps continued with Stefan Amokwandoh and Lane Russell in the triple. Amokwandoh was the only jumper to clear 46 feet and posted a 14.27 (46-10). Russell's 13.75 (45-1.50) on his second attempt made him the runner-up in the event.
On the track, Charles Volker won the 60 at 6.82, Josh Ingalls won the 800 at 1:51.82, while the squad went 1-2-3 in the 1000 led by Noah Kauppila's 2:25.67.Â
