Princeton Plays to Scoreless Draw with No. 22 Columbia
October 14, 2017 | Men's Soccer
PRINCETON, N.J. (10/14/17) - The Princeton men's soccer team earned a big Ivy League point today as they played No. 22 Columbia to a 0-0 game on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium. Sophomore goalkeeper Jacob Schachner made a career-high seven saves in the draw.
Columbia (6-1-3, 2-0-1 Ivy) came into today's game at the top of the Ivy League standings with six points on two wins. The Lions had a 21-6 advantage in shots, with goalie Dylan Castanheira making three stops.
Princeton's (3-6-3, 0-2-1 Ivy) best chance to get on the board was in the second half as junior Jeremy Colvin played a ball to senior Gaby Joseph in the box. Joseph got a great touch and was able to get it under a diving defender but the shot was gobbled up by Castanheira.
Schachner had his best save of the first half coming directly off a free kick. Brendan Dennis lofted his shot over the man-made Princeton wall but Schachner was in the right position to take in the ball in the 32nd minute. In the second half, he made a leaping save to deny Arthur Bosua who picked up a long ball from midfield in the 60th minute.
The Tigers will return to action next Saturday, Oct. 21 when they take on Harvard. Game time is at 4:30 p.m., in Boston.
