Paniagua Nets First Career Goal as Princeton Ties Harvard, 1-1

Freshman Gaby Paniagua scored his first career goal in the 77th minute as Princeton played to a 1-1 draw at Harvard on Saturday afternoon at Jordan Field. The Crimson tied the game in the 85th minute off a corner kick. Princeton had the run of play in the two overtime periods with a 7-4 shot advantage but couldn't get the golden goal.
Defender Bobby Hickson had Princeton's (3-6-4, 0-2-2 Ivy) first scoring chance in the 10th minute when he took a ball from about 30 yards out and the ball just skimmed the cross bar. Less than a minute later Jacob Schachner made a big stop on a quick transition by Harvard (2-7-4, 1-1-2).
The Tigers offense was hungry in the second half, outshooting the Crimson 13-7. Junior Jeremy Colvin had a number of chances to score, as he had 11 shots in the game. He nearly put one away in the 72nd minute when he made a long run up the left flank pushing the ball ahead of his defender to a one-on-one with keeper Kyle Parks, but his shot banked off the right post and back out into play.
Bryan Prudil intercepted a pass near the midfield line and sent a through ball up the center of the field. Paniagua waited, made his run and settled the ball before putting a right foot on the ball to send it past Parks.
Philip Hausen net the equalizer in the 85th minute off a corner kick. Christian Sady took the free kick and laid into the box were Fernando Doctors got a foot on it at the left post and Hausen in the middle of the box banged it in. It was in the 57th minute when Hausen was denied on a big stop by Schachner and a great follow-up clearance by Moyin Opeyemi to boot the ball out of the box.
Colvin had another great chance when Parks made an even better save as he stops in in another one-on-one situation in the 80th. Parks picked up another save in the 87th on Prudil after a nice feed from Paniagua and then a header by Colvin off an Opeyemi cross went just wide as the Tigers battled for the go-ahead goal late in regulation.
Shots finished 24-21 in favor of the Tigers as Schachner made six saves and Parks stopped eight.
Princeton hosts Cornell next Saturday, Oct. 28 at 5 p.m.
