Balanced Scoring Effort Gives Princeton 8-1 Win Over Dartmouth
October 28, 2017 | Women's Ice Hockey
PRINCETON, N.J. (10/28/17) - Seven different skaters got their first goals of the season, including four freshmen, as Princeton defeated Dartmouth 8-1 this afternoon at Hobey Baker Rink.
Junior Karlie Lund had a three-point effort with two goals and one assist, while sophomores Claire Thompson and Carly Bullock along with Amanda Harris each had a goal and an assist. Senior Kiersten Falck and junior Kimiko Marinacci both net two assists apiece. Also making her way onto the scoresheet was sophomore Stephanie Neatby, who picked up her first career assist.
"I was hoping to get my first win a little earlier in the season but it was good!" first-year head coach Cara Morey said "The girls played unbelievable. It's kind of cool to say my first win was against Joe Marsch, because not many women in this league can say that. We had four freshmen get their first goals tonight, and they are clicking now and realizing more people than just Bullock can put the puck in the net and I think they needed that confidence boost."
Princeton is now 1-1-2 overall and 1-1 in the ECAC.
Freshman Sharon Frankel got the scoring started at 10:18 of the first period and exactly six minutes later it was Harris with her first collegiate goal. Defender Thompson added a power-play marker two minutes later as Princeton took a 3-0 lead at the first intermission.
Lund net her first goal of the season early in the second from Bullock who put away her sixth of the season, on the power-play at 9:02 of the second.
"I feel like I've had a lot of opportunities so far but to finally get one in the back of the net was a great feeling, and takes the pressure off so I can ease into my game a little more," Lund said. "To see more scoring, especially with four freshmen get their first goals, it puts a really positive finish on the weekend. Going forward we have to build off this, and know we can dominate teams and we have a deep team with forwards who can score is a great feeling."
Dartmouth's lone tally came on a 5x3 with 56 seconds remaining in the second.
Harris picked up her first goal midway through the third, followed by another tally from Lund. Shannon Griffin finished off the scoring with her first career goal at 12:47.
Neatby finished the game with 19 saves as Princeton was 2 for 6 on the power play and 4 for 5 on the penalty kill.
Christie Honor, who made 61 saves last night at Quinnipiac, gave up five goals and stopped 14. She was pulled immediately after the Bullock goal and Shannon Ropp played the final 30:58 and made 22 saves and allowed three. The Big Green are now 1-3 overall and 1-2 in league play.
Princeton's eight goals is the most the program has scored since the 2006-07 season when they put up a nine-spot on Union in a 9-2 win on Nov. 10.
Princeton hits the road for the first time next weekend at Colgate and Cornell, Nov. 3 and 4.
