O'Toole Pushes Princeton to 2-0 Win Over Villanova
October 04, 2017 | Men's Soccer
Freshman Kevin O'Toole assisted on the first goal, just 59 seconds into the game, and scored his first collegiate goal in the 72nd minute to give Princeton a 2-0 win over Villanova on Wednesday evening on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium.
It was the quickest goal the Tigers have scored all season, as sophomore defender Benjamin Issroff scored his first career goal buried a rebound by O'Toole off a free kick.
The action came just moments after Jeremy Colvin took the opening kick and Sean McSherry threatened. Villanova's keeper Will Steiner muffed his kick and McSherry pounced. Steiner threw himself on the ball, using his hands to pick it up, resulting in an automatic free kick, nearly parallel to the penalty kick hash mark. O'Toole took the shot, with the entire front line filled with Wildcats. The shot deflected off a defender and back out to the left side where Issroff good a good rip to make it 1-0 Tigers 59 seconds into the game.
O'Toole had a solo effort in the 72nd as he came up the middle using his speed to get by his defender. Holding the ball up, he sent a left-footed strike over four defenders and into the left upper 90.
Princeton outshot Villanova, 17-13 with keeper sophomore Jacob Schachner stopping three shots while another came from the help of a teammate.
Steiner finished with six saves as his team had a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.
Princeton resumes the Ivy League schedule on Saturday, Oct. 7 at Brown. Game time is at 7 p.m.
