Brown Takes 1-0 Game from Princeton
October 07, 2017 | Men's Soccer
Brown's Quinn English scored on a redirection in the 49th minute to gives the Bears a 1-0 win over Princeton on Saturday evening on Stevenson-Pinince Field.
This is the earliest Princeton has given up a goal all season as the Tigers have shutout their opponents in the first half in all 10 contest this year. The goal came after Daniel Schiller came up the left flank and crossed the ball into the box where it was redirected by English for his second goal of the season. All six of Princeton's losses this year have been by just one goal.
Princeton sophomore Jacob Schachner made four saves in the game, his first coming off a throw-in in the 35th minute. He came out to punch the ball away but Will Hayward got the rebound and sent it right into the breadbasket of Schachner. His best save came off another throw-in as the the ball pinballed around in the box before Schachner got it with a foot and collected for a goal kick. He made another big move with six minutes remaining when he went toe-to-toe with Connor Gregory and took the shot in the body as he stood outside the box.
Senior defender Benjamin Issroff delivered the Tigers first shot on goal in the first half when he had a give-and-go with classmate Harry Heffernan and Brown's Joey Cipicchio had to make a diving stop to keep the clean slate. Six minutes later Princeton had another scoring opportunity after freshman Richard Wolf beat his man to the ball and centered it for Issroff. His shot was blocked by freshman Gaby Paniagua got the loose ball and it went just high of the cross bar. Freshman Kevin O'Toole had a chance in transition five minutes into the second but the shot finished wide left.
