Lundy is Top Finisher as Princeton Takes 28th at NCAA Championships

Results
The 2017 Ivy League and NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional champions Princeton finished 28th overall at the NCAA Championships in Louisville, Ky. The race was moved up from its 11:45 a.m., start time to 10 a.m., due to a weather system moving into the area. With the ground soaked from rain from the previous days and a wind advisory, the gusts continued to gain momentum as the race went on, making breathing through this 10k quite difficult.
Running without senior captain William Paulson, who also missed last year's championship race, the Tigers would have to rely on its steady scorers from the season. Seniors Noah Kauppila and Garrett O'Toole who have been in the top three all season long had rough races and finished as the No. 5 and 6.
Sophomore Conor Lundy led the Tigers throughout the day. At the 2k split he was in 109th at 5:30 and 2k later had moved up 18 places into 91st with a 6:06.5 to have an 11:59.4 at the 4k point. He continued to build on and 4k later had gained more ground, moving up 30 more places with a 24:13. Lundy finished with a time of 30:19.64 to finished 62nd overall.
Sophomore Gannon Willcutts showed tremendous progress throughout the race. He was in 189th at the 2k point and moved up 27 places to 162nd 2k later. He continued to punch and moved into 142nd at the 8k point. He finished 13 places better at 129 with an overall time of 30:57.49.
Senior Rob Stone was the third Tiger across the line at 31:20.55. He moved up seven places in the final 2k. Viraj Deokar who was the No. 7 runner at the 2k point continuously pushed ahead and moving up 33 places in the next 6k before closing the gap on 10 other runners in the final 2k to clock 31:25.93.
The final scorer, O'Toole was 184th with a time of 31:26.33. Between the 4 and 8k points he started to make a move and got by 39 runners and then another six in the final 2k.
Kauppila and senior Wolfgang Beck were the No. 6 and 7 runners with Kauppila posting a 32:05.72 for 226nd and Beck a 32:42.14 for 242nd. Beck who was the Tigers No. 4 at the 4k point dropped 19 places over the middle 4k of the race, while Kauppila struggled with the wind between the 2k and 4k markers, dropping 20 spots, before gaining six spots in the final 6k
