Hickson Collects Golden Goal as Princeton Tops Penn, 2-1
November 04, 2017 | Men's Soccer
Sophomore defender Bobby Hickson scored his first career goal on Tuesday night as Princeton defeated Drexel 1-0 in the final non-conference game of the year. First goals are ones you'll remember - but for Hickson tonight's golden goal at Penn is going to be right up there with it.
In the 94th minute, Hickson had the ball at the right corner of the 18-yard box and started towards the goal leaving his defender in the dust and putting a left foot on the ball as another defender tried to challenge. The ball rolled past the fingertips of Penn's Scott Forbes for the game-winning goal. Princeton is now 6-6-1 on the season and unbeaten in its last six games with a 2-2-2 Ivy League record.
Penn got on the board in the 14th minute with a goal by Sam Wancowicz. Jake Kohlbrenner had the initial shot that Princeton keeper Jacob Schachner made a stop on but he wasn't able to corral the ball as Wancowicz got a foot on it. Sophomore defender Benjamin Issroff raced to the goal line to try to make a team save but Wancowicz had already gotten the shot off.
Freshman Gaby Paniagua knotted the game in the 23rd minute off a Princeton throw in deep in the attacking zone. Hickson sent the ball into the box where it was headed up by leading scorer Jeremy Colvin. With three Quakers standing in the box, Paniagua collected the header and sent it past all three, and Forbes.
Princeton had a 13-5 advantage in shots as Forbes finished the game with four saves while Schachner had two.
The Tigers host Yale on Senior Day, next Saturday at 4 p.m.
