Bacskai Selected As Ivy League Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. – With the game-winning goal against Penn on Saturday, Maddie Bacskai has been selected as the Ivy League Player of the Week, the conference announced today.

Bacskai's goal with 12 minutes to go helped the No. 14 Princeton Tigers wrapped up the outright Ivy League Championship with a 2-1 victory over the Penn Quakers.

In the 47th minute, the Tigers executed a corner as Bacskai earned her third tally of the year, deflecting a shot from Sophia Tornetta. Clara Roth inserted to Julianna Tornetta, who stopped it for her sister. Backskai would then touch the ball into the cage to give Princeton the 2-1 lead.

The Tigers clinched the outright Ivy League championship, its 25th all-time, and the Ivy's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. It's the 22nd time that the Tigers have made the Big Dance. The last time that Princeton did not play in at least the NCAA Play-In Game was in 2004.

Princeton (11-6, 7-0 Ivy) takes on No. 4 Virginia (15-4, 5-1 ACC) to open the NCAA Tournament on Saturday (Nov. 11) at 2 p.m.
