In Final Home Match Before Ivy Play, Women's Tennis Team to Host Rutgers Wednesday
February 13, 2017 | Women's Tennis
Seven matches from coast to coast will come for the Princeton women's tennis team before the Tigers play another match on campus. After Wednesday, that is.
In a 5 p.m. start Wednesday in Jadwin Gym, the Tigers (4-4) will host Rutgers for the 37th consecutive season. Admission to the match is free. Princeton has won 20 in a row over the Scarlet Knights and hold a 35-2 advantage in the series, which began in 1976 and has been played annually since 1981. Rutgers' wins came in 1995 and 1996.
The match is Princeton's last at home until after Ivy play begins. Between Wednesday and the April 7 Ivy home opener against Cornell, Princeton will take a weekend trip to Xavier and Kentucky on the final weekend of February, head down to Maryland for a match on March 5, play three matches in California against Cal State Northridge, San Diego and San Diego State during the spring trip, and open Ivy play at Penn on April 1.
Princeton has the nation's 39th-ranked doubles team of Caroline Joyce and Nicole Kalhorn, and the Tigers are coming of a 1-1 finish at the ECAC Championship last weekend at Harvard.
Rutgers (2-2), like Princeton, opened its dual-match season against Delaware, which both the Tigers and the Scarlet Knights defeated. Before opening Big Ten play against Nebraska next Wednesday, Rutgers will face Seton Hall, which Princeton defeated as part of the season-opening doubleheader along with Delaware on Jan. 28, in a match Saturday.
Wednesday's match can be streamed on the Ivy League Digital Network, and the team will be updating on Twitter @PrincetonTennis.
