Picking up the four singles matches it needed, the Princeton men's tennis team beat Harvard 4-2 in the ECAC Championship opener Friday night in Jadwin Gym.
Princeton will face Cornell, a 4-1 winner over Yale, in a semifinal match Saturday at 3 p.m. back in Jadwin.
"There's always a lot of pride on the line when Princeton and Harvard play," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "Each time it's a down-to-the-wire type of affair. Harvard played incredible doubles to rally and take the point from us. I told the team we played great there and didn't lose it. They took it from us and if Harvard could do that for three hours, then it would be too good. We dug in though and by winning five first sets it gave us some momentum that we were able to carry to a hard fought win. We have a great challenge with Cornell tomorrow. This is the best team they have put together and it will be a dogfight."
Harvard won the doubles point by taking the last two matches to finish, and the Crimson took the first singles match done, on court one, to go up 2-0 in the match. That was the Crimson's last win, as Tom Colautti, Kial Kaiser, Payton Holden and Davey Roberts got Princeton to the 4-2 clinch.
Order of finish: Doubles: 3, 2, 1; Singles: 1, 4, 2, 5, 6
