Trip to Blue Gray in Alabama Up Next for Men's Tennis Team
February 22, 2017 | Men's Tennis
For the fourth consecutive year, the Princeton men's tennis team will head to the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala., this weekend.
Matches will be played at Lagoon Park and the O'Connor Tennis Center in the city.
As it is every year, the field is strong, with three ITA top-50 teams in No. 16 South Carolina, No. 46 Rice and No. 50 Alabama. There are also seven top-125 singles players in the field and four top-50 doubles pairs, including Princeton's own Alex Day and Luke Gamble, ranked 13th in the nation.
Princeton (4-4) will open against Auburn (6-4) Friday at 1:30 p.m. ET/12:30 p.m. CT, a rematch of a 4-2 Princeton win that opened last year's Blue Gray event. South Carolina (8-1) or Texas Tech (4-6) will be up next for Princeton, which will face one of Alabama (5-4), Virginia Tech (3-3), Boise State (2-6) or Rice (6-4) in a third match. Princeton has already faced Rice this year, defeating the Owls 4-3 two weeks ago in Jadwin Gym, and the Tigers faced two of the other teams in the field aside from Auburn just last season, battling Alabama at the Blue Gray and Texas Tech in San Diego.
All three of Princeton's matches will be played between Friday and Saturday. The event website can be found here and the draw can be found here.
