Haddad's Home Run Sends Tigers Over UNC Greensboro, 5-3
March 10, 2017 | Baseball
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman Ramzi Haddad's home run in the ninth inning helped the Tigers to a 5-3 victory over the UNC Greensboro Spartans on Friday evening at UNCG Baseball Stadium.
Tied at 3-all, Haddad picked a perfect time for his first collegiate home run as he laced a ball over the right center field fence.
Danny Baer led the Tigers with three hits while Haddad had a multi-hit outing. Chris Giglio pitched two scoreless innings to pick up the victory. Starter Chad Powers scattered six hits and gave up two runs in six frames.
Zack Belski ripped his second home run of the season on a blast to right field, scoring the game's first run in the first inning.
The Spartans got on the board on a two-out double from Tripp Shelton that allowed Austin Embler to touch home in the third stanza. The home squad took the lead on a groundout one frame later. In the fifth inning, the Tigers had runners on second and third with no outs, but could not bring in the tying run.
Chris Davis led off the seventh inning for the Tigers with an infield single and then stole second. After a strikeout, Baer lined a base hit to right field that tied the game at 2-all. Two batters later, Haddad doubled down the left line, allowing Baer to score, putting Princeton in front, 3-2.
Back-to-back sacrifice bunts gave the Spartans their third run of the game in the bottom half of the seventh.
Princeton quickly looked to retake the lead in the next half inning. With two out, Max West was hit by a pitch and moved to second base on a wild pitch. The next batter, Baer, hit a long fly ball to center field that looked like an extra-base hit, but Andrew Moritz made a fantastic over-the-shoulder catch to end the threat.
Embler had three hits for the Spartans to lead their offense from the lead-off position. Princeton will battle UNC Greensboro in a doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.

After Haddad's four-bagger, Nick Hernandez doubled and then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Conor Nolan followed with a base knock through the left side to score Hernandez and tack on an insurance run. Here's Haddad's game-winning home run from a few angles... pic.twitter.com/suh3XmU3t7
