CWPA Release
PRINCETON, N.J. - For the 17th time in her career, Ashleigh Johnson has been selected as the Collegiate Water Polo Association's Defensive Player of the Week for her performance at the Crimson Invitational last week.
Johnson began the Crimson Invitational with a 19-save performance in a 7-4 win over No. 19 Harvard. Her 19 saves are tied for the fourth most in a single game in program history. The senior had a combined 31 saves as the Tigers' two wins over No. 23 Marist (8-5) and No. 21 Wagner (9-5). She finished the weekend with seven stops as the Tigers took down No. 16 UC-San Diego.
Princeton is 11-0 on the season with six of those victories coming against ranked opponents. The Tigers have given up five goals or less in eight of their 11 games this year. This is the third best start in program history (2012, 2014).
The Tigers will take some time before traveling out west. Head coach Luis Nicolao's team opens the West Coast trip vs. No. 17 San Diego State on Mar. 18 (4:30 p.m.).
