Men's Tennis Team Sweeps Saturday Pair With Wins Over NJIT, William & Mary
March 11, 2017 | Men's Tennis
Winning their fifth and sixth matches in a row, the Princeton men's tennis team defeated NJIT and William & Mary, each by a 6-1 score, in a Saturday doubleheader in Jadwin Gym.
The Tigers will play next in the first of three matches during spring break in California on March 21 at Pepperdine. Matches at San Diego and UC Santa Barbara will follow.
"It was nice to cap off consecutive weekends at home today with two more wins," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "We had a lot of positives, yet there is a great deal we'd like to improve. Nonetheless, we have a chance to briefly catch our breath before heading out to California for three tough matches during spring break."
Against NJIT, Princeton opened with a doubles-point sweep, with Alex Day and Luke Gamble, Tom Colautti and Payton Holden, and Jonathan Carcione and Ben Tso helping the Tigers to the day's first point. Day, Kial Kaiser, Jimmy Wasserman, Davey Roberts and Carcione then went on to win on the first five singles courts for the 6-1 final.
Against William & Mary, Princeton again won the doubles point, though the Tigers needed Carcione and Wasserman to come through on court three after a split on the first two courts. Day, Wasserman, Holden, Colautti and Kaiser followed with wins to get Princeton to a 6-1 win.
Order of finish: Doubles: 2, 3, 1; Singles: 1, 3, 2, 6, 5, 4
