March 15, 2017 | Field Hockey
PRINCETON, N.J. – The National Field Hockey Coaches' Association (NFHCA) has announced that Ellen Dobrijevic is a Division-I Scholar of Distinction. The senior along with eight of her teammates were also named to the Division-I National Academic Squad.
To be a Scholar of Distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.9 or higher through the first semester. The National Academic Squad includes all student-athletes with a cumulative GPA or 3.3 or higher through the first semester. A total of 114 student-athletes representing 54 different schools were recognized as Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I Scholars of Distinction. 926 student-athletes among 79 schools made the Academic Squad.
Dobrijevic became the first Princeton athlete to ever win the NCAA Elite 90 Award. The Elite 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships. The senior was also a four-time member of the National Academic Squad.
Sarah Brennan, Carlotta von Gierke, Jane Donio-Enscoe, Elise Wong, Krista Hoffman, Taylor Nolan, Susan Orth and Hailey Reeves were named to the National Academic Squad along with Dobrijevic.
Princeton went 12-8 in 2016 and reached the NCAA Tournament for the ninth straight season. The Tigers received an at-large bid to the tournament for the first time in program history and reached the Final Four for the seventh time.
