Princeton No. 11 In CWPA Varsity Poll, Preps For California Trip

PRINCETON, N.J. – After a week off, the Princeton Tigers currently sit No. 11 in the today's Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Varsity Poll.
USC remains as the top team in the country with Stanford, UCLA, Calif., and UC-Irvine rounding out the top five. Michigan, the top CWPA team, is tied for No. 6 with Hawaii.
Princeton is 11-0 on the season with six of those victories coming against ranked opponents. The Tigers have given up five goals or less in eight of their 11 games this year. This is the third best start in program history (2012, 2014).
The Tigers most recently took part in the Crimson Invitational, going 4-0. Here are highlights from that trip…

Chelsea Johnson and Amy Castellano lead the Tigers with 20 goals each. Johnson and Wan pace the Princeton offense with 29 points each while Eliza Britt's 15 assists tops the team. Ashleigh Johnson is 10-0 on the season with 101 saves. She has allowed 33 goals in 211 minutes.
Head coach Luis Nicolao's team opens a West Coast trip vs. No. 12 San Diego State on Mar. 18 (4:30 p.m.) as part of the Roadrunner Invitational, hosted by No. 22 CSU Bakersfield. The Tigers are 4-12 all-time vs. San Diego State, winning the last three. A few hours later, Princeton will battle No. 6 Arizona State (8:15 p.m.). The women's water polo team has not beaten Arizona State since 2005.
The Tigers finish the Roadrunner Invitational with a doubleheader on Sunday vs. the host, CSU-Bakersfield (1:30 p.m.) and Cal-State East Bay (4:30 p.m.). Princeton hasn't faced the Roadrunners since 2011, an 8-7 victory. The Tigers defeated Cal State East Bay, 12-7, in the two teams' only meeting in March of 2013.
