No. 11 Princeton Splits During Day One Of Roadrunner Invite

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Princeton Tigers earned a split during day one of the Roadrunner Invitational, defeating the No. 12 San Diego State Aztecs, 5-4, and losing to the No. 6 Arizona State Sun Devils, 7-6, at the Hillman Aquatics Center on Saturday afternoon.
Princeton's 12 wins to open the season was the third best start in program history (2012, 2014). Seven of the Tigers' 12 victories have been against ranked teams.

Haley Wan and Amy Castellano scored two times each while Sydney Cheong had the other tally for Princeton. Ashleigh Johnson made 16 saves in net. Princeton stole eight passes in the game and drew five ejections.
Trailing by three at the intermission, the Tigers scored four times in the second half and held the Aztecs scoreless to pick up a 5-4 win. Wan scored the game-winner with 3:09 to go, but San Diego State had one last opportunity with a man-up situation with 24 seconds remaining. Ashleigh Johnson saved her best save for last at she stopped an attempt with five seconds to go to secure Princeton's 12th straight win.

Each team recorded four goals in the first half in an evenly played 16 minutes of action. The Sun Devils raced out with three straight goals in the third quarter and led 7-4 heading into the final frame. The Tigers made one more push, scoring twice in the final 3:27, but couldn't muster the game-tying tally.
