Softball Team Splits Sunday in California
March 19, 2017 | Softball
A four-run fifth inning lifted the Princeton softball team to a 5-1 win over Saint Mary's in the first of two games Sunday at UC Davis.
Kaylee Grant opened the scoring with a single that picked up an Allison Harvey double in the first before Dylan Linton picked up a Dylan Linton walk to tie it for the Gaels in the third.
That's where it stayed until the fifth, when Alex Viscusi led off the inning for the Tigers with a double before Megan Donahey picked her up to put Princeton back up by a run. Marissa Reynolds followed with a double to score Donahey, and Kelsey Smith pushed it to 5-1 with a single that scored Reynolds and a Grant walk.Â
Claire Klausner went the distance to pick up her second win of the season.Â
Against UC Davis, Princeton scored first when Haley Hineman picked up a Reynolds walk with a single in the top of the second, but that was it for the Tigers in a 10-1, five-inning loss. A hit batter, walk and a single loaded the bases for the Aggies' Brianna Werner, who put her team up 4-1 with an inside-the-park home run. Maddie Rojas drove in two with a double in the third to make it 6-1 and drove in two with a single in the fifth as part of a four-run inning to get to the 10-1 lead.Â
Princeton will have an off day Monday before Pacific hosts the Tigers for a pair beginning at 7 p.m. ET.Â
