Navy Tops Princeton, 9-5
March 24, 2017 | Baseball
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Despite a three-hit performance from Asher Lee-Tyson, the Princeton Tigers were topped by the Navy Midshipmen, 9-5, at Max Bishop Stadium on Friday afternoon.
Lee-Tyson had a triple, two runs and two RBI while Zack Belski had two hits and two RBI. Six others Tigers had a hit in the contest.
Navy's Liam Lowery hit a three-run home run in the second stanza to put the home unit in front early in the matchup. Back-to-back sacrifice flies in the third gave Navy its fourth and fifth runs of the game. The Tigers had runners on first and third with no out in the fourth frame, but couldn't push across a run.
Trailing 6-0, the Tigers put together a crooked number in seventh inning. Three straight singles loaded the bases with one out. Lee-Tyson followed with lining a base hit to right field, scoring two. The next hitter, Belski, also came through with a two-run knock, cutting the Tigers' deficit in half. The Midshipmen got out of the jam with a strikeout and fielder's choice.
Paul Tupper opened up the eighth frame with a double down the left field line, but the Tigers couldn't get any closer. Navy kept Princeton at bay with a three-run bottom of the eighth inning.
The Tigers put together one more rally as Lee-Tyson singled and Nick Hernandez doubled to begin the ninth. After a strikeout, pinch-hitter Ramzi Haddad singled up the middle to score Lee-Tyson. The home team picked up the victory with a double-play to end the game.
Five Midshipmen had multi-hit outings while Noah Song struck out 10 hitters in 6 1/3 innings of work.
These two teams will continue their series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
