Steffensen's Win Caps 4-3 Women's Tennis Victory Over Yale
April 14, 2017 | Women's Tennis
Katrine Steffensen battled back from a first-set loss and won the last match on court to pick up the fourth point for the Princeton women's tennis team and deliver a 4-3 victory for the Tigers as the race for the Ivy League title continues.
The three-time defending league champion Tigers are now alone in second place in the Ivy at 3-1, one match behind next Saturday's opponent, Harvard. This Saturday at 2 p.m. back at the Lenz Tennis Center, Princeton will host Brown, which fell Friday to Penn, 5-2, to move to 2-2 in the Ivy.
Princeton opened the afternoon with a doubles-point win, with Caroline Joyce and Nicole Kalhorn, ranked 87th nationally, picking up a 6-1 win at first and Gaby Pollner and Sivan Krems sealing the point with a 6-3 win at second.
Kalhorn won the first singles match to wrap, taking court four in straight sets, and Pollner followed with another straight-set win at sixth to put Princeton just a point away from the win. But the fourth point didn't come easily. Yale pulled even with a straight-set win at second before recovering from first-set losses at fifth and third singles to tie the match at 3-3.
Steffensen, who lost her first set 6-2, won the last two frames 6-2 and 6-4 to clinch it and keep the Tigers on pace in the league.
Saturday's match is free admission and the team will have live updates on Twitter at @PrincetonTennis.
