Women's Tennis Team Tops Brown 4-3, Keeping Control of Ivy Hopes
April 15, 2017 | Women's Tennis
Completing the weekend sweep, the Princeton women's tennis team defeated Brown 4-3 Saturday afternoon at the Lenz Tennis Center, keeping the Tigers' Ivy title hopes in their control.
Princeton's win moved it to 4-1 in the Ivy, and Cornell beat previously unbeaten Harvard 4-3 Saturday to tie the Tigers and the Crimson atop the league. The winner of next Saturday's 1 p.m. match between Princeton and Harvard in Cambridge will be a win away from both the NCAA tournament and the outright Ivy League title. Princeton heads to Dartmouth next Sunday while Harvard will host Penn that day.
Princeton opened the day with a doubles-point win, thanks to victories at first from the nationally 87th-ranked pair of Caroline Joyce and Nicole Kalhorn and at third from Clare McKee and Katrine Steffensen. Singles play began with wins for Brown at fourth and first, but Tiffany Chen picked up Princeton's second point with a straight-set win at third. Kalhorn then followed with a straight-set win of her own at fifth, and McKee bounced back from a first-set loss to allow only three games over the last two sets, clinching the fourth point for the Tigers.
Order of finish: Doubles: 1, 2, 3; Singles: 4, 1, 3, 5, 6, 2
