Bertrand and Paulson Win on a Star-Studded Night at Larry Ellis

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/21/17) - It was a who's who of Princeton track & field at Weaver Stadium with the likes of Cecilia Barowski, Liz Costello, Russell Dinkins, Joe Stilin, Peter Callahan and Robby Andrews making appearances on Day 1 of the Larry Ellis Invitational.
Junior Josh Ingalls clocked 1:49.36 in the 800 to finish eighth out of 60. It matched his PR identically. Former Tiger Peter Callahan '13 was fifth at 1:48.59. Sophomore Franklin Aririguzoh also clocked a PR with a 1:51.94.
Junior William Paulson won the 1500, beating out 65 other runners in the event. He ran a PR of 3:42.23, shaving nearly two seconds off his previous best time of 3:44.15. His time tonight is the fourth fastest time in Princeton history. Junior Noah Kauppila ran his best time of the season in the event with a 3:45.06 to finish eighth. Volunteer coach and Olympian Robby Andrews rabbitted the first heat, which also saw a 3:45.20 from former Tiger Joe Stilin '12 and a 3:47.09 from junior Garrett O'Toole.
All three throwers finished in the top 10 in the shot put. Junior Mitchel Charles was fifth with a throw of 16.63 (54-6.75) coming on his second attempt. He also reached 16.48 and 16.22. Senior Chris Cook was sixth with a toss of 16.41 (53-10.25) on his final throw. He had thrown a best of 15.36 before his final throw, moving him up from 11th place to sixth. Senior Jared Bell recorded a throw of 15.75 (51-8.25) on his fifth attempt. All three of his countable throws were over 15 meters.
Freshman Viraj Deokar posted the best time in the 5k at 14:29.43 which was nearly 16 seconds better than his PR.
Senior William Bertrand won the final event of the night, the 10k. He was one of two of the 17 distance runners to finish in under 30 minutes, posting a time of 29:48.987. He was in the top pack the entire race and took over first place.
Another big performance came from sophomore Adam Kelly in the hammer throw. He threw a PR of 67.57 (221-8), improving by three inches, and now ranks 11th in the East and continues to rank third on the all-time Princeton performance list. He was in the lead nearly the entire event, with the 67.57 coming on his fifth attempt. Junior Gabe Arcaro was 10th with 55.92 (183-5) on his second attempt.
Day 1 begins tomorrow with the long jump, pole vault and discus - all beginning at noon.
