Men's Tennis Team Closes Weekend With Win Over Dartmouth
April 23, 2017 | Men's Tennis
Kial Kaiser rebounded from a first-set loss to get the fourth point the Princeton men's tennis team needed to finish its weekend with a win Sunday at the Lenz Tennis Center.
"This was a good win today," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "Dartmouth really pushed us and rallied from behind. We possibly played our most complete doubles point of the year, followed by a great start in singles. That's usually an ideal recipe for success in most matches. However, despite our being up 3-0 and controlling the match to that point, Dartmouth really made an inspired surge and grabbed the momentum. Fortunately, Kial really stepped up at the right time to break his opponent and then close it out. We'll have a good week of practice and prepare for the last regular-season match against Penn for senior day."
Princeton began with a doubles-point win thanks to Payton Holden and Jimmy Wasserman at second and Jonathan Carcione and Luke Gamble at third allowing only three points between them to secure the afternoon's first point. Carcione at sixth and Alex Day at second then picked up straight-set singles wins to get Princeton to a 3-0 lead, but the fourth point was tougher to find. Dartmouth won three-set matches at third and fifth to pull within 3-2, but Kaiser bounced back from a 6-1 first-set loss to win the final two sets 6-3 and 7-5 and get the fourth point for Princeton.
The Tigers will close the regular season Saturday at 3 p.m. with a visit from Penn at the Lenz Tennis Center or in Jadwin Gym in the event of inclement weather.
Order of finish: Doubles: 3, 2; Singles: 6, 2, 3, 5, 4
