Updated: Home Field for ILCS at Stake Saturday as Cornell Visits
April 26, 2017 | Softball
The Princeton softball team will be playing in the Ivy League Championship Series. That much we know.
Who the Tigers will play, when they'll play and where they'll play won't be known until Sunday, or perhaps after for that first question. The answer to the third, however, is in the Tigers' hands when Cornell visits for two Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at the Class of 1895 Field. Admission to the doubleheader is free.
The teams will finish the series Sunday with a 12:30 p.m. pair in Ithaca.

Here are the updated scenarios heading into the final weekend:
Princeton will host the Ivy League Championship Series if…
It wins at least two games against Cornell
OR Dartmouth wins two or fewer games against Harvard
OR it wins one game against Cornell and Dartmouth wins three or fewer games against Harvard
Â
Dartmouth will win the Ivy North if…
It wins three or more games against Harvard
It wins two games against Harvard and Yale does not sweep Brown
Â
Dartmouth will host the Ivy League Championship Series if…
It wins four games against Harvard AND Princeton wins no more than one against Cornell
OR it wins three games against Harvard and Princeton is swept by Cornell
Â
Harvard will win the Ivy North if…
It wins four games against Dartmouth
OR it wins three games against Dartmouth and Yale does not sweep Brown
Â
Harvard cannot host the Ivy League Championship series as it will have no more than 13 wins, Princeton already has 13 wins and Princeton has the tiebreaker over Harvard because of Princeton's doubleheader sweep of Harvard on April 9.
Â
Yale will win the Ivy North if…
It sweeps Brown AND Dartmouth wins no more than two games against Harvard AND Harvard wins no more than three games against Dartmouth, AND if it defeats one of those teams in a one-game playoff.
Yale cannot host the Ivy League Championship Series as it will have at most 12 wins and Princeton already has 13.
Â
Dartmouth and Harvard cannot have a playoff as Dartmouth has a one-game lead entering a four-game series, so a split will leave Dartmouth up one and the winner of the series will win the division.
If there is a playoff to determine the Ivy North champion, that would bump the ILCS back to May 13-14, and it'd also mean Princeton would be the host as the North division champion in that scenario would have no more than 12 wins.
The Tigers are 15-5 over their last 20 games and have a 13-3 record in the Ivy, good enough to have clinched the Ivy South title with a full weekend to go. Senior Marissa Reynolds entered the week standing fourth in the nation at 0.4 doubles per game, sixth in on-base percentage at .566, sixth in slugging percentage at .856, and 11th in batting average at .456. Sophomore Riley Wilkinson is one of 28 pitchers with at least four saves, tied for ninth-most in the nation. Princeton ranked 10th in the nation at 1.62 doubles per game and 12th in fielding percentage at .977.Â
Reynolds is one of five Tiger regulars hitting better than .300, pacing the team to a league-best .306 average. Seniors Erica Nori (8-2, 3.07 ERA) and Claire Klausner (9-5, 4.02) have been Princeton's Ivy-game starters.
Cornell is coming off a split of a Wednesday doubleheader at Ithaca College, which received votes in the latest Division III national poll. The Big Red were also top 10 in the nation in doubles per game, standing fourth at 1.71. Junior Megan Murray (.339) leads three Cornell regulars hitting better than .300, and junior Maddie Orcutt (4-9, 4.89) and rookies Lisa Nelson (5-5, 5.11) and Katie Lew (2-8, 5.74) have thrown all but 17 of the team's 240 innings.
Princeton swept the home-and-home doubleheaders from Cornell a year ago and haven't lost a series to the Big Red since 2012, taking three in 2013 and splitting the four in each of the two years after that. Last year's sweep was Princeton's first over the Big Red since the four-game series divisional format began in 2007.
