Wan and Johnson Selected As CWPA All-Conference First Team

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton Tigers had two players, Haley Wan and Ashleigh Johnson, named to the Collegiate Water Polo Association's (CWPA) All-Conference first team, the conference announced today.
"It's always great to see any player recognized for their accomplishments over a season," said head coach Luis Nicolao. "I'm very happy for Haley and Ashleigh as they are both very deserving of this accolade."
Haley Wan has had an extraordinary season to date as she has registered 12 hat tricks in her last 13 games. She sits with 63 tallies, the 12th most in a single-season in program history. The junior showed an all-around game as she swiped 34 passes, collected 30 assists and drawn 25 ejections.
One standout performance from Wan includes a career-high five-goal performance vs. Pomona Pitzer on Mar. 21. She also registered five goals on five shots vs. Bucknell on Apr. 1. She recorded a season-high seven points (three goals and four assists) at No. 17 Hartwick in a 13-12 decision. She had six games in which she snagged a goal on every shot she took and finished the season a sparkling .612 shooting percentage.
Ashleigh Johnson did it all for the Tigers in 2017 as she posted a 20-3 record along with a .696 save percentage. She had at least 10 saves in 19 of her 25 games and at least 15 saves in six matchups this season, finishing with 265 stops this year. Johnson led the team with 47 steals which matches her career-high and while contributing 16 assists.
Against No. 21 Wagner on Feb. 5, the senior made 11 saves, stole two passes and even scored a goal. She allowed just one goal in 24 minutes vs. George Washington on Feb. 12. The Olympic Gold Medalist had a season-best 19 stops vs. No. 19 Harvard on Mar. 3. Out on the West Coast, Johnson was spectacular as she made 18 saves and allowed just three goals at No. 22 Cal-State Bakersfield. Johnson finished the regular season strong as she made 10+ saves in three of the team's last four contests including a 14-save outing vs. No. 17 Hartwick on Apr. 9.
Princeton wraps up the regular season at 22-3 overall and 7-1 in the CWPA. The Tigers will be the No. 2 seed in the CWPA Championship (Apr. 28-30) hosted by Indiana and take on the No. 7 seed Bucknell on Apr. 28 at 1:30 p.m.
