May 12, 2017 | Women's Water Polo
PRINCETON, N.J. – Princeton water polo coach Luis Nicolao has announced that senior Sydney Saxe is the 2017 Friends of Women's Water Polo Tiger Award winner.
The Friends of Women's Water Polo Tiger Award is given annually to the individual who contributed most in play, sportsmanship and dedication to the women's water polo team.
"It was a pleasure to coach Sydney as she was an amazing team player," said Nicolao. "She was someone who you wouldn't always see on the scoresheet each game, but was always important to our success as team."
Saxe played in every game except for one this season, making 20 starts. The senior scored four goals, added six assists, 11 steals and drew eight ejections. The Tigers went 24-4 and reached the Collegiate Water Polo Association Championship Game, dropping a close 5-4 decision to No. 7 Michigan. Princeton reached the 20-win milestone for the fifth time in the last six seasons.
In 115 career games, Saxe scored 23 times, assisted on 33 goals, swiped 59 passes and drew 29 ejections. In her time at Princeton, the Tigers went 105-18, won the 2015 CWPA Championship and finished sixth at the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
