Off The Field:

John Carcione, an EEB major at Princeton, was a part of a research team where he was put in charge of several different assays/experiments, where they studied very aggressive forms of brain tumors. His job was to test specific properties of the brain tumors after being treated with a certain drug, to ultimately help test the effectiveness of new drugs.

During John's year off from the school, he found this research opportunity through his brother who knew the doctor in charge of the research lab. His goal was to get some lab experience to see how he felt about medicine and research as a potential career.

Jonathan on this opportunity:
"Working in the lab broadened my academic horizons; after having this experience I felt I had a leg up when it came to taking organic chemistry and biochemistry, as it was nice having the prior experience under my belt. It gave me a lot of perspective, as the lab cells came from real people, and it makes you realize that being at Princeton, I realized how fortunate I was to be in a position I am."
