Ivy Champs Earn High Seed At NCAA Championships On Mercer Lake

The Ivy League champion Princeton open rowing team will bring energy and strong seedings to the 2017 NCAA Championships on May 26-28 at Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. Princeton is one of only three programs to have qualified for all 21 NCAA Championship regattas, and they'll compete this year right in their own backyard.
Two days after setting the Cooper River course record to win its third Ivy League title in the last four years, the Princeton varsity eight learned it would be seeded fourth in the 22-boat field of 1V crews. Princeton's two other boats, the 2V and the V4, will be seeded sixth and tenth after silver and bronze medal performances at the Ivies.
Unlike the Ivy League title, the NCAA championship is awarded to the program with the best combined score of its three boats. The V8 is worth the most points, followed by the 2V and the V4, and Princeton has finished in the top seven in six of the last seven years. The Tigers have also won three individual gold medals in program history (1997 2V, 2006 1V, 2011 1V).
Last year, the Princeton varsity eight returned to the Grand Final at the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2013.
The varsity eight went 11-0 during the regular season and 7-0 in the Ivy League. At the Ivy Championships, it went wire-to-wire to win its fifth title in the last seven years. On Friday, May 26, the V8 will race in one of four heats to kick off the NCAA Championships between 9:00am and 9:36am. If it advances, it will race in one of two A/B semifinals at 8:36am or 8:48am on Saturday. On Sunday, the grand final of the V8 will be at 11:00am, and the petite final will be at 10:48am.
The second varsity eight went 10-1 during the regular season and 6-1 in the conference. It only lost by 2.8 seconds to Brown at the Ivies to achieve second place. On Friday, the 2V will race in one of four heats between 9:48am and 10:24am. If it advances, it will compete in one of two A/B semifinals at 9:24am or 9:36am on Saturday. On Sunday, the grand final of the 2V will be at 10:36am and the petite final will be at 10:24am.
The varsity four also went 10-1 during the regular season and 6-1 in the conference. It gained third place at the Ivies this past weekend. On Friday, the V4 will race in one of four heats between 10:36am and 11:12am. If it advances, it will compete in one of two A/B semifinals at 10:12am or 10:24am on Saturday. On Sunday, the grand final of the V4 will be at 10:12am and the petite final will be at 10:00am.
Princeton head coach Lori Dauphiny has been at the helm for all 21 appearances at the NCAA Championships.
