Princeton Tied For No. 9 In Final CWPA Varsity Poll

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers are tied for No. 9 in the final Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Varsity Poll of the season.
Princeton was tied for No. 9 with Long Beach State, who the Tigers defeated on the road (7-2) in March. Stanford, the 2017 national champion, is the No. 1 team in the Varsity Poll. The Cardinal took down UCLA, 8-7, winning its fifth title in the last seven years.
The remaining top 10 in the poll is UCLA, USC, Calif., Calif-Irvine, Arizona State, Michigan and Pacific.
The Tigers finished the 2017 season at 24-4 and reached the CWPA Championship game. It was the fifth time in the last six seasons that Princeton reached the 20-win milestone. Head coach Luis Nicolao's unit won 12 games vs. ranked opponents and seven contests vs. California teams. Ashleigh Johnson and Hailey Wan were named to the CWPA All-Conference Team while Johnson, Wan along with Chelsea Johnson and Lindsey Kelleher were selected to the CWPA Championships All-Tournament Team. Ashleigh Johnson was also honored as a finalist for the prestigious Peter J. Cutino Award.
