In the top of the first inning in the NCAA Tallahassee Regional opener against No. 4 Florida State, Princeton loaded the bases on a two-out hit batter to Kaylee Grant after Megan Donahey reached on an error and Kylee Pierce beat out an infield single to start the inning.
FSU's Jessica Burroughs, the ACC Pitcher of the Year, got a strikeout to end the threat, and Burroughs didn't give Princeton any more chances in the Seminoles' 3-0 win Friday night before 1,169 fans.
Princeton will move on to face Jacksonville State, which fell to Georgia 4-2 in Friday's first game, in a 2:30 p.m. elimination game Saturday on ESPN3 back at FSU's JoAnne Graf Field.
Claire Klausner, a conference Pitcher of the Year in her own right after earning the Ivy League honor Thursday, kept the Seminoles close with the help of the Tiger defense. FSU scored in the second on Sydney Broderick and Anna Shelnutt doubles a batter apart, added a run in the fifth when Alex Powers singled home Morgan Klaevemann after Klaevemann started the inning with a walk and a stolen base, and scored for the final time in the sixth on a solo Broderick home run.
Beginning with the strikeout that ended the Tigers' first-inning threat, Burroughs retired the last 16 batters she faced before handing the ball for the seventh to Meghan King, who retired the Tigers in order.
