McDonough to Continue Soccer Career in France
May 23, 2017 | Women's Soccer
Graduating senior and Monmouth Beach, N.J., native Jesse McDonough will soon be seeing the Atlantic Ocean from the other side.Â
McDonough has signed with French club Le Havre, located northwest of Paris on the English Channel.Â
"I am extremely excited to begin this new chapter of my life and play for Le Havre AC (HAC) next fall," McDonough said. "This opportunity will not only allow me to further my soccer career and help build the foundation of an outstanding Le Havre women's program, but will also provide an amazing cultural and educational experience. I cannot thank my family, friends, coaches, and teammates at Princeton enough for their support along the way. Princeton has provided me with amazing opportunities these past four years, and I am beyond grateful for this next one to continue playing the sport I love."
McDonough played in 67 games over her career and started 58, earning first-team All-Ivy League and second-team NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors while serving as a team co-captain as a senior. A defender and midfielder, she added 17 assists during her career with a high of seven as a junior when the Tigers won the Ivy League and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament.Â
"I could not be more excited for Jesse," Princeton coach Sean Driscoll said. "Joining Le Havre is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and is a testament to her efforts throughout her youth, high school and college careers. Jesse will have a chance to immerse herself in a new culture, explore Europe, and pursue her passion for soccer. I am incredibly proud that Le Havre has recognized the very same gifts that we appreciated during Jesse's time on campus. Her ambition, determination, talent and desire to improve were abundantly clear since the day I first arrived on campus. She is among the most dominant athletes that I have had the pleasure to coach in my 20 years in this profession and I cannot wait to support her in the next chapter of her life. Le Havre is getting a tremendous player and an even better person that will help mold a bright future for their club."
