Princeton Rowing Earns Maximum Number Of IRA Qualifications
May 25, 2017 | Heavyweight Rowing, Women's Rowing - Lightweight, Men's Rowing - Lightweight
The Princeton rowing teams earned the maximum amount of qualifications and will send ten boats to the IRA Championships, held June 2-4 at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center in California.
The Princeton heavyweights will send four boats to the IRAs, including their top three varsity eight boats. Princeton will try to build upon a strong 2016 IRA Championships, where the varsity eight placed third, the second varsity placed second, and the third varsity capped an undefeated season with a gold medal. All three boats finished in the top three in their Sprints championships on May 14, including a gold-medal finish for the 2V.
The Princeton heavyweights will also bring a varsity four to compete at the IRA Championships.
The Princeton men's lightweights will send three boats to compete in Sacramento, including their top varsity eight. The lightweight men's varsity eight will look to match or improve upon its bronze-medal finish at the 2016 IRAs. At the Sprints championship, the Tigers placed fifth. The lightweights will also bring a four and a four without coxswain to the IRAs, both of which placed top three at last year's IRA Championships.
The Princeton women's lightweights will also send three boats to compete next weekend, and they are coming off one of their best postseason races in the last few years when they rallied to win bronze at Eastern Sprints earlier this month. Princeton placed sixth at last year's IRA Championships.
The Tiger women's lightweights will also bring a four and a double boat to the regatta next weekend.
