2017 Schedule
PRINCETON, N.J. – After coming off the program's seventh trip to the NCAA Final Four last season, the Princeton Tigers have announced their 2017 schedule.
Â
We have a highly competitive schedule lined up for 2017 with nine of the 16 teams from last year's NCAA Tournament and the other three teams from the Final Four," said head coach Carla Tagliente. "I am a big believer in that your schedule should support programmatic goals. Investing in the process and focusing on growth allows us the chance to compete to be the best every year. Our players are excited, and I am looking forward to seeing how they embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead."
Â
Princeton opens the year with the 2016 National Championship participants, the North Carolina Tar Heels and Delaware Blue Hens. For the third straight season, the Tigers open up at home vs. the Tar Heels (Sept. 1) before a trip south to battle the Blue Hens, the defending National Champions (Sept. 3). Delaware ended the Tigers' 2016 campaign in the National Semifinals with a 3-2 decision.
Â
The following weekend, Rutgers (Sept. 8) and Penn State (Sept. 10) travel to Bedford Field. Princeton has not taken on Rutgers since 2006 and is 21-3-1 all-time against the Scarlet Knights. Tagliente's unit and Penn State faced off twice last season with the Tigers scoring a 2-1 win in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Â
Ivy League play starts in the third week of September with a trip to Dartmouth (Sept. 23). Prior to that, the Tigers take on two NCAA Tournament squads in Duke (Sept. 17) and Maryland (Sept. 19). A busy week continues as Princeton also clashes with Boston University on Sept. 24. Boston reached the Patriot League Championship Game last season. All four games that week will be on the road.
Â
The first Ivy League home match is against the Yale Bulldogs (Sept. 29) to finish the month of September. October starts with a road matchup vs. the 2015 National Champion, Syracuse (Oct. 1). Later in the week, the Columbia Lions (Oct. 6) and Connecticut Huskies (Oct. 8) head to Princeton. The Huskies reached the National Semifinals in 2016, going 22-2.
Â
Another road trip gets underway with an Ivy battle vs. Brown (Oct. 14) before an encounter at Northeastern (Oct. 15). Princeton and Northeastern have not seen each other since 2005. The Tigers look to avenge their two Ivy losses in 2016 at Harvard on Oct. 21 and vs. Cornell on Oct. 28. The 2017 regular season finale is at Penn on Nov. 4.
