Tigers Stand Eighth After One Round at NCAA Regional in Georgia
May 08, 2017 | Women's Golf
The top six teams will move on to the NCAA women's golf championships from the regional at Georgia, and Princeton has put itself in contention to join that group after Monday's first round.
Through the first 18 holes, Michigan State, Alabama, Georgia, Northwestern, Baylor and Tennessee are the teams in the top six. The Volunteers are at +9, one shot in front of seventh-place Arizona and three in front of eighth-place Princeton.Â
The top three players not on the advancing teams will also go on to the NCAA finals as individuals. Through 18 holes, -1 is the number to be in that group. Wake Forest's Jennifer Kupcho, who leads the entire field at -4, is in one of those spots, one shot ahead of a trio that includes Clemson's Alice Hewson. North Carolina's Leslie Cloots and Arizona's Krystal Quihuis, both at -1, would battle for the third spot if the tournament ended today.
Freshman Alison Chang is the top Tiger at +2, tied for 24th, with classmate Maya Walton and sophomore Tiana Lau tied for 30th overall at +3. Senior Hana Ku is the fourth scoring Tiger at +4, tied for 38th, and sophomore Amber Wang is tied for 67th at +7 in the field of 96.
Princeton will begin teeing off for Tuesday's second round at 7:33 a.m. Complete first-round results and live scoring are available via Golfstat here.
