Ratcliffe Earns Third First-Team All-America Honor with Sixth-Place Finish

EUGENE, Ore. (6/8/17) - For the third time in her career Julia Ratcliffe earns first-team All-America honors as she earns a spot on the podium for the third year. She is the first Tiger in program history to earn three first-team All-America honors in the same event during her career. Ratcliffe was 11th as a freshman, the national champion as a sophomore and the national runner-up as a junior.
In a stacked flight 2, Ratcliffe had her work cut out to her facing off against the nation's leader Maggie Ewen (Arizona State) and Brooke Anderson (Northern Arizona), who sandwiched Ratcliffe with the third best toss nationally headed into the weekend.
The leader after flight 1 was Emma Thor (Virginia Tech) with a 64.19 (210-7).
Throwing second in flight 2, Ratcliffe launched a 61.81 (202-9) on her first attempt moved into sixth place. By the end of the first attempts she was in ninth place. She continued to improve on each attempt, tossing 64.50 (211-7) on her second chance to move into second place. After Anderson threw 65.22 (214) on her second attempt and Ewen a 67.58 (221-9) on hers, Ratcliffe took her third attempt in third place and maintained that position despite improving on her mark to 64.65 (212-1). It was in that third round that Ewen extended her lead with a meet record and personal record of 73.32 (240-7).
Ratcliffe was one of the nine to move on to the finals for three more throws, sitting in sixth place. On her fourth throw she improved again, at 64.78 (212-6) but hit a foul on her fifth throw. Maintaining sixth place as she headed to the circle on her final attempt she threw her best of the day, a 65.25 (214-1).
She graduates Princeton with the school and Ivy League record of 70.28 (230-7), and is the New Zealand national record holder with a 70.75 (232-1.50).
Senior Allison Harris concluded the performances for the Tigers this season in the pole vault. She was unable to clear 4.00 (13-1.5) on her three attempts. On her first try she skimmed the bar on her follow through and she didn't complete her swing up on her second attempt. Her third attempt was her best as she looked to have cleared the bar before it her left knee knocked it loose and it came down. Harris earns honorable mention All-America honors for making to the finals, her second All-America honor of the academic year after taking 10th indoors. A four-time Ivy League Heptagonal Champion, she is a two-time Heps MVP and scored in 11 events during her career in both the pole vault and hurdles. Harris holds the Princeton and Ivy League records in the pole vault with a 4.23 (13-10.5).
