Hoy '13, Lussi '17 Go Head-to-Head in NWSL
August 12, 2017 | Women's Soccer
For the first time since Tyler Lussi made her National Women's Soccer League debut last month, she and fellow Princeton alumna Jen Hoy '13 went head-to-head as each of their teams pursue a playoff spot in the NWSL standings.Â
Lussi's Portland Thorns prevailed 3-2 in Saturday's match outside Chicago, allowing Portland to move past Hoy's Chicago Red Stars and into second place in the NWSLÂ standings with 31 points, two better than Chicago.
Lussi entered the game as a substitute in the 61st minute, and five minutes later, Hoy entered. Portland's 3-2 lead, which the Thorns took in the 55th minute, remained the rest of the way as the two Tigers and their teammates played out the match. The win was Portland's fourth in a row.
Hoy and Lussi, who rank fifth and first both in career goals and points in program history, will have the chance to meet again on the final day of the regular season, Sept. 30, in Portland.Â
