Ivy Plus Comes to a Close for Men's Tennis Team
September 24, 2017 | Men's Tennis
The first of two home tournaments for the Princeton men's tennis team came to a close Sunday as the Tigers wrapped up the Ivy Plus Invitational.
Freshman Ryan Seggerman, who beat two ITA-ranked opponents Saturday to make the final of the Tiger Draw, the top of the four draws at the tournament, fell to Penn State's 118th-ranked Constant De La Bassetiere 6-4, 6-3 in Sunday's final.
"Ryan didn't quite serve as effectively as he did his previous three matches," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "However, a lot of credit goes to his opponent from Penn State who played especially consistent throughout the match. Nonetheless, it was a great tournament for Ryan as he won three quality matches and started the fall off at 6-0 before his loss today. Davey (Roberts) also have a nice win today and finished the tournament on a good note.
"We had three players nursing some injuries but we're hopeful they will all be back in the next few weeks for either Farnsworth or (ITA) Regionals. We need to continue trying some doubles tandems as we just weren't clicking in that area. Nonetheless, it was a nice opportunity to see where we stand against strong competition while identifying the areas we need to address in practice."
Seggerman's match was the only main-draw contest of the day, as Princeton players had four singles matches outside of the draw and three doubles consolations. Princeton's results are below, and complete draws are available here.
