Tigers Drop 1-0 Lightning Delay Game at Colgate
September 03, 2017 | Men's Soccer
HAMILTON, N.Y. (9/3/17) – Princeton dropped a 1-0 decision to Colgate on Sunday, Sept. 4 in a lightning delay game at Beyer-Small '76 Field.
A goal by Troy Moo Penn broke the stalemate in the 65th minute. The ball was stripped from a Tiger in front of the Colgate bench where it was collected by Uyiosa Omorogbe. He centered to Jared Stroud and he pushed it ahead to Moo Penn. He had a step on his defender as he tracked it down and kicked it into the lower right corner.
Sophomore Jacob Schachner matched his career high four saves, as he did in Friday's 1-1 tie with No. 8 Syracuse. His first save came in the 13th minute after the ball pinballed around in the box, but he was in the right position to grab and hang on to it. The save of the game came in the 57th minute, on Colgate's eighth corner kick. The ball was launched into the box by Stroud and Karl Brown jumped up with a header to knock it on goal. Schachner leapt and tipped it up over the cross bar with his fingers and out of play.
Princeton's best chance came from senior Daniel Bowkett in the second half when he beat his defender and went in one-on-one with keeper Peter Tappenden. Tappenden pushed the ball away with his gloves but there was no secondary opportunity. Less than a minute later freshman Kevin O'Toole had a chance to put away a Jeremy Colvin pass at the left corner of the box but Tappenden had tracked it the entire way. He finished the game with three stops.
Princeton hosts Seton Hall in the home opener on Thursday, Sept. 7 at 4 p.m., in a double header with the women's team.
