Dartmouth Upends Princeton 2-1 in Double Overtime
September 30, 2017 | Men's Soccer
HANOVER, N.H. (9/30/17) - Dartmouth's Matt Danilack scored the game-winning goal with 6:35 remaining in double overtime to lift the Big Green to a 2-1 win over Princeton in the Ivy League men's soccer opener on Saturday afternoon at Burnham Field.
Princeton (1-5-2, 0-1 Ivy) took the lead in the 54th minute as Jeremy Colvin notched his third goal of the season. It was set up by junior Brendan McSherry who snuck by three defenders along the right flank and delivered the ball into the 18-yard box where Colvin was running on and one-timed the goal, just the fifth that Dartmouth (6-2, 1-0 Ivy) have given up this season.
Nine minutes later Justin Donawa net the equalizer with a header off of Dawson McCartney's cross.
Five minutes later, senior Matthew Mangini lofted a long ball into the opposite side of the 18-yard box where senior James Reiner got a hard header on the ball, but it went just wide of the left post.
McSherry had a nice chance to get the go-ahead goal in the 72nd minute when senior Benjamin Martin took a run up the center of the field and the Tigers connected some passes in the attacking third before McSherry's final strike that was saved by a defender and kicked away before the two approaching forwards could take another whack at it.
Jacob Schachner made five saves in goal for Princeton, as Dartmouth - a team receiving votes in the national poll - had a slight 16-11 edge in shots.
Dartmouth's Christopher Palascios stopped one shot on goal and while on the other end of the field his team put up 16 corner kicks.
Princeton hosts Villanova on Wednesday night on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium. Game time is at 7 p.m., and admission is free.
