Princeton got off to a brilliant start this season, including an impressive 6-3 win over fourth-ranked Stanford during the opening weekend of the season. The Tigers have more team wins (six) than individual losses (four) so far, but they also know that they are entering a daunting part of the schedule. Four of Princeton's next five matches will be against teams ranked first (Harvard, Feb. 3), second (Trinity, Jan. 11), fifth (Penn, Jan. 31) and sixth (Yale, Jan. 14).
Of course, the Tigers' lone focus is Trinity, which has won the last three meetings between the two teams, including both last season. However, the last time the two teams met in Jadwin during the regular season, Princeton posted a thrilling 5-4 home win over the Bantams, an effort that included big wins by current Tigers Samantha Chai and Isabel Hirshberg. Both are now upperclassmen looking to give Princeton its first win over a Top-2 team since the 2013 Ivy League championship season.
Senior co-captains Olivia Fiechter and Kira Keating are making their final charge at an Ivy League title, and both have been terrific in their final seasons. Fiechter, a three-time All-American who is healthy after an injury-plagued junior season, is a perfect 6-0 at the No. 1 spot and has yet to lose a single game. Keating is 4-0, including a 3-2 victory at the seventh spot in the hard-fought win over Stanford.
While upperclassmen have taken care of business, head coach Gail Ramsay has also gotten impressive early performances from her heralded freshman class. Raneem El Torky, who has played at No. 2 throughout the season, and Emme Leonard are both 6-0, while Mia Rosini is 4-0. Classmate Grace Doyle, a two-time member of the U.S. World Junior Team, dealt with early injuries, but she won her collegiate debut against Drexel and is hopeful to add yet another spark during the second half of the season.
Trinity, which plays Columbia Wednesday afternoon, has won six of the last seven against Princeton.
Princeton will have free food at the match for fans who come out to support the Tigers in this key weekday match against one the nation's best teams.
