PRINCETON, N.J. – Four players scored in double figures as the Princeton Tigers (12-3, 2-0 Ivy) dropped the Columbia Lions (6-10, 0-1 Ivy), 69-47, at Jadwin Gym on Friday evening.
Â
Bella Alarie led the squad with 18 points and a season-best 13 boards, while stealing three passes, dishing out two assists and blocking a shot. It's her 16th career double-double and the eighth of the season. Gabrielle Rush and Abby Meyers posted 11 points each off the bench. Carlie Littlefield contributed 10 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals in the victory.
Â
Princeton's defense was outstanding in the first quarter as it held Columbia without a basket for the first 4:23 of game action. The Tigers ran out to a 15-2 lead and led 18-6 after the first 10 minutes. The Lions registered just two baskets in the frame, going 2-of-11 (18.2 percent).
Â
The Tigers' prowess on defense continued in the second stanza as the Lions went the first 3:23 without scoring before a three-pointer from Riley Casey set the contest at 22-9 (6:37). A trey from Rush (32-13) gave the home unit its largest advantage of the first half at 19 with 3:15 to go before the halftime score settled at 37-19. The Tigers were 8-of-16 from the floor in the quarter as eight different players tally points in the first 20 minutes.
Â
Princeton would extend its lead to 25, its biggest of the contest, several times in the third frame before Columbia closed with eight consecutive points to complete the quarter (55-38). The Lions never seriously threatened in the fourth stanza, getting within 15 with three minutes left, but the Tigers finished off the game with nine of the last 11 points.
Â
Taylor Baur snagged a personal best 10 rebounds as the Tigers held a 51-28 rebounding advantage. Princeton's 51 caroms and +23 margin were its best of the season. Camille Zimmerman had a game-high 29 points in the loss for Columbia.
