Princeton Tied For No. 17 In CWPA Varsity Poll
January 17, 2018 | Women's Water Polo
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers have been slated in a tie for the No. 17 position with the Harvard Crimson in the first Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Varsity Poll of the season.
Princeton will have new head coach as Becca Dorst has taken over in an interim capacity as Luis Nicolao left to take the men's water polo head coaching job at the U.S. Naval Academy. Dorst is in her second season with the Tigers and will be assisted by Derek Ellingson, the interim men's water polo coach.
The Tigers finished the 2017 season at 24-4 and reached the CWPA Championship game. It was the fifth time in the last six seasons that Princeton reached the 20-win milestone. The team won 12 games vs. ranked opponents and seven contests vs. California teams.
Stanford is the top team in the Varsity Poll, followed by USC, UCLA, Calif., and Arizona State. Michigan (No. 8) and Indiana (No. 13) are the two CWPA teams in front of Princeton.
The 2018 campaign gets underway in February as the Tigers travel for the Arizona State Challenge (Feb. 2-3). The Tigers open with the host, Sun Devils, on Feb. 2 at 2 p.m.
