Ivy Play Set to Resume as Tigers Down Rowan in Jadwin
January 28, 2018 | Men's Basketball
Princeton made six of its first seven tries from beyond the arc to grow an early lead, and the Tigers were in control throughout in an 86-50 win over Rowan in the annual post-finals game in Jadwin Gym Sunday afternoon.
Princeton scored the game's first 12 points on the way to a 25-4 lead before seven minutes were gone, and though the Profs pulled to within 13 with seven-plus minutes to go before the break, the Tigers closed the half with a 12-2 run over the last five minutes to enter the intermission up 44-19.
The Tiger lead grew as large as 40 in the second half. Jerome Desrosiers' 14 points tied his career best, which the rookie set last time out against Cornell. Desrosiers has reached double figures in four of his last five games, averaging 11.6 points per game over that stretch and raising his scoring average from 3.5 to 6.1 points a game along the way.
Princeton held Rowan to 24.2 percent shooting from the field in the first half on the way to a 48.4 percent to 30.2 percent clip from the field on the game. The Tigers' 11 3-pointers put Princeton in double figures in that category for the third straight game, marking the second time this season, along with the games against Monmouth, Cal Poly and USC, that Princeton hit at least 10 3-pointers in three consecutive games. It was also the third game in a row that Princeton's opponents have shot below 40 percent from the field, the first time all season that three straight Tiger foes didn't hit at least 40 percent, and the first time all season that Princeton has held three straight foes below 30 percent from beyond the arc. Princeton last held three straight opponents below 30 percent from distance in December 2014.
Princeton will return to Ivy play Friday at 6 p.m. in Jadwin Gym in a game to be televised on NBC Sports Philadelphia as well as the Ivy League Network. The start time is a change from the originally announced 7 p.m.
