Hello Stranger - Princeton Meets Penn State in First Game Back from Break

EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton was a roll prior to the exam break, going 5-1-1 since December 30. Overall the Tigers are 8-10-4 with seven games remaining in the regular season. Six players are in double figures in scoring led by junior Karlie Lund who has 17 points on five goals and 12 assists and recorded her 100th career point in her last game. Sophomore Carly Bullock has a team-high 14 goals and two assists for 16 points. Both Lund and Bullock won the ECAC Rookie of the Year award the last two seasons. Senior Kiersten Falck has the most assists on the team, 13 total and has one assist. Defenders Stephanie Sucharda and Claire Thompson follow with 13 and 12 points respectively, while junior Keiko DeClerck has 10 points with the second-most goals on the team with seven. Sophomore Stephanie Neatby, the reigning ECAC Goalie of the Year sports 1.96 goals against average and a .927 save percentage in the 18 games she has played with three shutouts to her credit. Princeton's scoring defense ranks fifth in Division I women's hockey, allowing 2.00 goals per game, while a huge part of the Tigers' game is its stellar penalty kill which is third in the nation at 89.8 percent. Princeton has killed off 79 of 88 penalties and has scored two short-handed goals.
SCOUTING THE NITTANY LIONS
This is the first season for Princeton alum and 21-year head coach Jeff Kampersal '92 at Penn State, making this game one many will be watching. His Nittany Lions are 6-12-9 overall and had a hot streak between late October and the close of December losing just two games. Since the beginning of January Penn State is 2-5-1 and is looking for its fist win since Jan. 12 when it defeated conference opponent Lindenwood 3-1. Freshman Natalie Heising leads the offense with nine goals and nine assists, with sophomore Brooke Madsen being the feeder with 12 helpers and four goals. Katie Rankin, who's brother Kyle was captain of the Princeton squad in 2016, has 13 points on seven goals and six assists. Defenders Kelsey Crow and Bella Sutton chip in 11 points apiece. Like the Tigers, Penn State has a great scoring defense, ranked fourth at 1.93 goals per game. Senior Hannah Ehresmann has played in 19 of 27 games and has a .928 save percentage and a 1.92 goals against average. Sophomore Daniela Paniccia has made nine appearances and may get the nod in this non-conference matchup. She has a .930 save percentage and a 1.75 GAA.
THE PRINCETON/PENN STATE SERIES
Princeton has lost just one time in the seven meetings it has had with Penn State, a 2-1 game in the Tigers' season opener in 2014. Princeton has five wins in the series and one tie, a 5-5 game on Dec. 31, 2016. Overall the Tigers have outscored the Nittany Lions 26-11.
