Maggie O'Connell Earns Ivy Player Of The Week Honor Following Critical Weekend Wins

Reigning Ivy League Player of the Year Maggie O'Connell had already been having a strong season before Princeton made its home debut last weekend, but she made sure she had something special for the home crowd. O'Connell recorded 32 kills over two nights, including 21 in an Ivy playoff rematch with Yale, and led Princeton to two key victories in Dillon Gym; her efforts earned her the Ivy League Player of the Week award.
O'Connell was spectacular against Yale in a showdown of the top two teams in the Ivy preseason poll; she hit .441 (21-6-34) and added three digs and two blocks in the 3-1 victory. In a tight opening set, where Princeton grabbed early momentum with a 25-23 win, O'Connell killed 80% of her swings. That was nearly her hitting percentage for the entire Friday match against Brown, when she killed 11 of 15 balls without an error for a .733 attack percentage.
"Maggie came out on fire this weekend," head coach Sabrina King said. "She did a fantastic job of putting away in-system balls and found a way out of system as well. She is an emotional leader of the team. Her drive and competitiveness allows her to improve each season, which is as impressive to her teammates as it is scary for her opponents."
Princeton, the lone Ivy League team inside the Top 65 in RPI this week, will head to both Harvard and Dartmouth for matches this coming weekend. Both matches will be streamed live on ESPN+.
