Juarez's Early Goal Lifts Tigers in Non-Conference Finale
October 02, 2018 | Women's Soccer
Princeton outshot Bucknell three-to-one Tuesday night on Sherrerd Field at the Class of 1952 Stadium, but Gabi Juarez's third-minute goal was the only one on the night as the Tigers won their eighth in 10 all-time meetings against the Bison, 1-0.
Princeton improved to 7-2-2 on the season and will return to Ivy League play Saturday on campus at 4 p.m. against Brown.Â
The win saw rookie Grace Barbara get her first career start in her second career appearance and get her first win as a Tiger as Princeton flipped the order of keepers in the only other game in which someone other than Natalie Grossi this season played a complete half. Noelani Kong-Johnson, who had the start and the win against Rider on Sept. 6, completed the shutout while working the second half and with each Tiger keeper recording a save.
Princeton extended its shutout streak to 400 minutes with the win, having not allowed a goal since Georgetown's OT winner on Sept. 13.Â
Juarez's goal came just more than two minutes into the game when Caroline Noonan threaded a pass forward while the rookie attacker charged toward goal. After a Bucknell defender couldn't control the ball as it bounded toward the 18-yard box, keeper Theresa Adu-Attobrah came off her line to see Juarez knock it past for her fourth goal of the season.
